Augmented Reality (AR)

Now and then we see AR technology everywhere - in computers, phones, games and other devices. Is this AR technology will be the stepping stone of a more advanced technology? Let say the laptop in my previous post? Or about hologram? Like the one we see in the Star Wars movies, without using any device such as spectacles.
